Biography

Gabriel Crist is a pianist, harpsichordist, and composer based in Los Angeles, California. Crist has won numerous competitions and awards, including first place in the Festival Internacional de Piano de Málaga Competition, East Carolina University Young Artist Piano Competition, the North Carolina Division of the Music Teachers National Association Piano Competition, and the North Carolina Symphony Kathleen Price and Joseph M. Bryan Youth Concerto Competition. In 2023, Crist debuted with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 15, led by Maestro Miguel Harth-Bedoya. The following summer, Crist made his European debut with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Málaga in a performance of Schumann’s Piano Concerto, Op. 54, led by Maestro José Luis López-Antón. Crist is also a passionate performer of early music, joining The Industry and AMOC as harpsichordist in the 2024 premiere of The Comet/Poppea. In addition to his accomplishments as a performer, Crist is a prolific composer. In the spring of 2018, his “Shine and Shade”, commissioned for their inaugural year, was premiered by the North Carolina Youth Wind Ensemble. He was selected to participate in 2018’s MATA Jr. festival, which concluded with a performance of his Quartet by members of the Face the Music ensemble. He lives in Los Angeles, studying piano with Fabio Bidini at the Colburn Conservatory of Music and composition with Stephen Jaffe.
